Hollyhocks
oil
My house was green
On one side
And we had hollyhocks in our yard.
There were real boats
and real trains;
our very own.
And we ran free and happy.
I was the butterfly - she
was the bee
As we twirled and giggled
to the music of the piano.
And our hollyhocks grew straight
And full
And reached for the sky.

White Tulips Poem
As you travel life’s path . . .
May you see your destination
as a place in your heart.
May you keep company
with sunshine and wild flowers.
May Angels ride on your shoulders
and sleep in your heart.
May the winds of change blow gently
as not to scare the songbirds.
May there always be
butterflies
around the corner,
And at least once in your lifetime . .
May you see White Tulips
Dancing with a Blue Moon!
-Suzanne L. Burns
Gardens of Light is an oil painting with gold leaf accents. It was done in 1994, when I had just graduated from The University of Washington. At the time my mind was pre occupied with thoughts on growing older, doing it with grace, finding a purpose to my art and saving the world. I am better now, but at the time the painting would become quite literal and then dance off into abstraction. I would periodically stop painting and write down random thoughts and eventually the little book, Gardens of Light, was born. It includes six paintings done at that time, some original and some not so original quotes, essays and musings. Two limited edition prints were made from this work, Gardens of Light and Falling Stars.

This page is a compilation of works done over the years. Many are still in progress.
A late bloomer to the art scene, Gardens of Light became my first step into the wonderful world of painting and beyond.
I find such complexity mixed with beauty and enlightenment in gardens, that it is the garden where I gravitate for inspiration in my work.
